Target Audience interview

Charlotte is the individual we are using as part of our member profile to gain information and base our some of decisions on for our music video.

"In a hip hop video I expect to see the artist wearing lots of jewellery and baggy designer clothes. So i like your ideas of having the artist in designer clothing an a cap to give the hip hop look. My favourite hip hop video is probably Lil Wayne ft Kevin Rudolf - let it rock, because it's very fast paced and flows with the beat of the music. Also because i love Lil Wayne. I think you're idea will be successful as Drake's video for Headlines at the minute is nothing amazing."

Demographics:

  • Male and Female
  • 13-25
  • Urban up bringing
  • Variety of races and ethnicities
Psychographics:
  • Opinions - The police are useless and don't help in any way, and that every day people and that the mainstream population don't fully understand their views and actions. They often see them set apart from the older populations.
  • Attitudes - Individualism, negative ways towards to authority, older generations and set rules, a element of rebellion is often shown.
  • Interests - Gigs and concerts, socialising and often acts of rebellion.
I believe there are certain areas in which it would be best to advertise our media product to reach the TA. I feel that the popular music video channels on television would be the most appropriate place. This is because of the huge numbers of the target market that view these channels on a regular basis thus making it more likely they will see our product.

This is some further information gained from the website uktribes.co.uk. It is information on the social group known as hipster. Our target audience is a combination of both the "hipster" and "get paid crew" according to the website so both information statistics are included.

One of the main and well known artists in our genre is considered an icon in this social group, Jay-Z

The first image is of the "hipster" category

This is image is from the "get paid crew" category

This gives us the information we require to help market our product, more succesfully, and efficently. It will help when deciding certain aspects of Mise-En-Scene such as costume and props so it can be suited to the genre and social group.

When filming we will be making ure that the actors we will be using are wearing brands that are associated with this genre. Brands such as nike, adidas that are shown in the images above as they are all conventions of the genre and social group.

The places were I would consider the product to be marketd asre places like, MTV, YouTube etc. This has been decided due to the information gained from uktribes, shown in the images above.

Pitch & Feedback

This is the pitch for our idea on the recreation of Drake, Headlines music video. The following points were given as feedback on which we need to consider and improve on to hopefully make a better finished product.

Positive Ideas
  • Good concept, not to difficult to produce
  • Good use of generic conventions, items such as the caps, earphones etc.
  • Good choice of character/s
Areas to improve on
  • Try to discuss in more detail what is actually going to happen in the video. This description was to basic
  • The locations appear to be quite vague at the moment, further discuss these to come to a conclusion
  • Make sure that enough people are present when shooting the performance based scenes
  • Make sure that the characters are chosen correctly, ethnicity is often key in these type of music videos so extras and other actors must fit within the generic conventions.
The actual production is much clearer in both mine and Hayley's heads, it is just the fact we were limited on time (1 minute) in the pitch to explain fully. We are also going to discuss the locations further to gain a clearer view on where we are going to film. Another aspect which we are going to consider is the other actors, we will thoroughly think about this so the video looks as professional as possible.

Artist permission

This is the evidence of asking our chosen artist permission for using their song.
