These following images are of the story boards both I and Hayley have drawn up for our production.
- This shot was chosen for its connection to the genre. It is an overview of built up, urban area (Lincoln) this is a connotation of the hip-hop genre as this is the sort of area where the genre originated from many years ago.
Shot 2 - Establishing shot
- This is again another shot of on overview of the city but this time closer to other areas of the city to give a different view point and to put more emphasis on the urban location. The shots have been planned to be turned black and white whilst in the editing stages, which is a popular convention of hip-hop music videos. An example of this is in Jay Z, 99 Problems.
Shot 3 - Performance
- It has been decided that shots of thew main actor Gideon will be introduced at this point. It will be a midshot of Gideon and a possible idea is to have him turning around to face the camera. In editing we will most likely put in a strobe light effect to break up the motion of the turn and will fit better with the tempo of the music.
- This shot is another performanced based shot. Ths will be a closer shot to gideon, and varying from midshots to close up and from a variety of different angles. This will help to keep the viewers entertained for longer. This is a popular conventions in the hip-hop genre and is used a lot in Kanyhe West, All Of The Lights.
- This scerne is going to be of a champagne bottle and glasses on a table with flickering loights over it. It is something that is often used in hip-hop videos, like Snoop Dogg, Drop Like Its Hot.
- In this scene, Gideon will bve falling backwards onto a sofa in slow motion, and then the clip will be reversed so it appears to be coming back up in a surreal fashion. Possible strobing effect will be used to help it appear smoother.
- This will be another performance based shot but of various angles of Gideon. This will be shot in the hall under the spotlighting in the dark, and various different shots will have strobe lighting which is a popular convention of hip-hip shon in Kanye West, All Of The Lights.
Shot 9 - Urban location
- This shot will be of Gideon in an urban location. The loaction will be chosen carefully so it matches the genre correctly. Urban locations are a popular convention in hip-hip and are connotations of the genre's origins.
Shot 10 - Table scene
- In this shot, the main actor will be sat around a table with his peers. The mise-en-scene will be studied carefully so that certain things are in shot, champagne, ciggars etc. This is somethnig that is a convention in hip-hop like in the original video for Drake, Headlines.
Shot 11 - Performance (behind)
- This shot will be of Gideon performing in the professional lighting situation, but from a different angle, it will be from behind showing the actions and movements. This is again a popular convention of hip-hop, for examle, Kanye West, All Of The Lights.
Shot 12 - Money
- This will be a close up shot of a pile of cash, this is something that is a connotation of the hip-hip genre because of the artits always emphasising how rich and powerful they are.
- We will shoot an extreme close up of Gideons lips and show them syncing with the lyrics, as if he his very directly addressing the audience. Something that is done in the popular R 'n' B song Azelia Banks, 212.
- This is going to be a shot of Gideon performing from various angles, with a crowd around him, as if he is performing in a concert. This is done in one of the most popular hip-hop songs in the last year, Jay Z and Kanye West, Paris. Having a crows conotes that the artist is powerful and signifies he is an atractive propersition to the public.
- These are going to be more performance shots at various angles and zooms, under the profesional strobe lighting. Using this lighting will give a better effect and is something done in a large number of all music videos. The performance is a convention of the hip-hop genre used in nearly every hip-hop music video made.
- We are going to place money within the hat of the main actor and he is going to take the hat off and put it towards the camera. The use of money is a connotation of the hip-hop genre asmany of the artists like to prove their power and authority over others.
Shot 17 - Urban street
- The shot will be of Gideon walking down an urban street from a rear view. The urban location is a connotation of the hip-hop genre as the streets and urban area is where the genre was originated.
- Another performance based shot again with a variety of angles so it doesn't become boring. The mise-en-scene will be very basic as it will be all black with the lighting only on the actor, creating more mephasis on him.The performance will fit well with the genre as it is a convention and is used in nearly all hip-hop vieos.
- This will be a variety of shots of a fenmale pole dancer. The reaoning behind this is because atractive girls are a conotation of atractiveness, power and dominance when used in conjunction with an artist. A popular convention of hip-hop, an example of this is Kanye West, Gold digger.
- This is going to be another performance based shot, but used with a different part of the song. Using the performance based shots will add a touch of proffesionalism to the piece as it is used so regularly in the genre.
- We will organise a group of people to be with the actor showing him with his peers, something that is a popular convention in hip-hop and is used in the orignial video to our song. Its a connotation of popularity and dominance amongst others.
- A crowd will be organised for to surround the main acctor and we will again use the professional lighting to get a strobe effect. This effect will match the songs tempo and make it seem more of a party type shot. Something which is associated with hip-hop artists.
- This will be the final performance based shot in the film, using static lighting (no strobe effect) where it appears the actor is addressing the audience in tie with the song as it is coming to an end. Something which is again done in most music videos made, not just hip-hop.
- It is planned for the the main ong lyrics "They Know" to appear on the screen in bright, vibrant neon colours. This is something that is often done in hip-hop videos and particularly by one producer under the production name of Hype Williams, who has produced many Kanye West and Rihanna videos.
Nice Tom. Only thing i'd possibly suggest is close ups of each frame?!!!
